Hi,
The board has decided to make the CAcert core software (known as LibreSSL and
CommModule) OpenSource.
Since the software contains a few third-party modules, we have to do the
following 3 steps:
* Investigation of the current situation
What third-party modules are there exactly?
What are their licenses?
Can we negotiate a different license for that module?
What restrictions do those modules impose on a license?
* Decision process
Based on the facts that were found in the investigation, we will have to make
a proposal, and the board will have to decide upon it.
Most likely there will be a discussion about which license to choose.
* Implementation
We will then have to implement the decided proposal.
What is needed for the process
* Someone to coordinate the whole process
* A developer to analyze the sourcecode and the modules
* A licensing specialist
* A developer/maintainer to implement the decisions
If anyone is interested to help with the project, please contact me.
Best regards,
Philipp Gühring
