The vacuumdb is done automatically in the background if the (highly
recommended) autovacuum daemon is used [1].

PostgreSQL has improved a lot during the last years and is recommended by some
commercial software vendors if Oracle is not an option (due to company
policies
or financial reasons). The SQL standard support of PostgreSQL as well as its
documentation is excelent.
