My forked repository is public, I think you can just clone it and checkout
my branch:

git clone https://github.com/jandd/cacert-devel.git cacert-devel-jandd
cd cacert-devel-jandd
git checkout replace_deprecated_mysql_api

or (if you already have a working copy named cacert-devel):

cd cacert-devel # replace with your local project directory
git remote add jandd https://github.com/jandd/cacert-devel.git
git fetch jandd
git checkout replace_deprecated_mysql_api

You just won't be able to push to my fork. The Github workflow expects that
you do your own fork, push to that and create a pull request to the upstream
repository when you are done.

Kind regards
Jan
