Hi, folks,
I just joined the list this evening, though I've been using CACert.org for at least a year. I've long felt that the SSL industry bears an uncanny resemblance to a cartel, so it's encouraging that a project like CACert.org exists, is functional, and appears to be sustainable.
A brief introduction:
I'm a 26-year-old US citizen. I live in the agricultural/University- dominated city of Davis, in the US state of California. Davis is an hour by car from San Francisco in the West, and about 20-minutes from Sacramento in the East. At my day job as the Datacenter Security Administrator for the University of California at Davis, I work with my colleagues to improve security in the countless servers and network equipment that we host in the campus datacenter. Some time soon I plan to get my CISSP certification. My main "extra- curricular" activity is working to turn my small internet services business into a cooperative.
I've joined this list for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that I think our two projects (CACert.org and Cernio ICT Cooperative) could benefit from collaborating. At the very least, Cernio will make use of CACert's services in its efforts to educate its members on PKI and encourage them to make greater use of encryption. We will contribute financially. Also, I intend to join CACert's Assurance Programme - it's just a matter of taking the time to have my notary and attorney each verify my identity and then mail off a packet to Australia.
If you'd like to read more about what the Cernio ICT Cooperative is doing, I encourage you to read our current organizational outline:

Thanks, and I look forward to participating in discussions such as the recent one about CACert's mission!
