Can he still use it? (Your reply focuses a tad heavy on Thawte certificates.)

Oh, no, Joost.  I hope that I didn't seem to be chastising you.  I was just trying to add to your knowledge and education in an area that you said you were unfamiliar.


In any case, the page that explains the process is http://wiki.cacert.org/ThawteNotary

Although there are several indications that this is a work in progress, the general process is as it is described.  If you apply through this process to get Transfer Points from CAcert for your Thawte Web Of Trust membership, it will work.  As far as the first part described in the process, that of just using your Thawte Certificate, I do not have any personal experience with this, so can't talk to it.
