Perhaps it's a misunderstanding, but an entity is:
An entity is something that exists separately from other
things and has a clear identity of its own.
People are always "entities", bodies corporate are often, but not always, entities.
In the context I was talking about, an entity is something or someone that can be obligated by some legal process, like a subpoena.
A court or prosecuting authority won't necessarily look for the most convenient method to us, they will look for the most convenient method for them, which may involve subpoenaing someone individually simply because they reside in a convenient location.
