Mario,

As an aside, I think you will be very interested in what Sympa can do for
us in terms of event organisation. I'm not sure if you have this
functionality today (I doubt it) but we can, for example, create lists for
different localities (cities, states, countries, etc.) and have
self-maintaining mailing lists containing only members of those regions who
have selected to receive mails about events in the web interface.

if this is a requirement let me know. Its good to be doing things for a purpose.

S/MIME signed mails from officials (including automated web-based 'officials' like
an events databse) will go straight through to the lists.

There are now recent debian packages for Sympa too (there weren't when I
was deploying it) so Daniel's job should be fairly straightforward

certially easier. I've installed it so far. Just needs configuring to our needs. Note - tell me what our needs are :-)

Need #1:  lots of sympa list administrators who aren't you so we aren't forever chasing the one/two people who have admin rights.

- I'm not sure what progress has been made so far but watch this space.

progress report - lot of work is being doing to make a seamless migration from mailman. there are some scripts out there, however they are a touch dated and require a bit of reworking to make it smooth. I just need a little time to go though all the options again.

I'd like to make historical mailman archives available under sympa. There seem to be partial support for this. I'll also keep the mailman archives there for historical links.

Any other requirements?

If you come across anything that looks like seamless copying from one list to another, let me know.  Over at sonance (the austrian art project) we have the Funkfeuer housing list forwarded across to the sonance tech list ... so we can see all the chitchat that relates to CAcert going down ... but this forwarding causes a bounce message going back to every poster to the housing list.

I'd quite like to see Google Groups subscribed to each of the lists too ala sysadmin.ie, such that if our servers inexplicably go away we won't lose our 'corporate memory'. This is not the first time I've mentioned this though - perhaps we can test with one list first...

Sam
