change the boot order in the bios ?!? ?-)
or is this a specific hardware bios problem ?!?  bios updates ?!?

Connecting the USB backup disk is not the problem, but rebooting the
server while that USB backup disk is connected and powered on IS the
problem with this server. An alternative way to get around this would
be to employ some kind of USB-controlled power switch, e.g. something
like: http://www.cleware.net/p-usbswitch-E.html
Does anyone have experience with a device like this or something
similar? Are there perhaps even simpler and cheaper solutions??
