it is tricky to setup the SSL connection in irc.cacert.org but it is
still working fine (auto-connect) for ages.
when I log in, I get :
(06:57:32) irc.cacert.org: (notice) *** Connected securely via TLSv1
RC4-SHA-128
(06:57:32) NickServ: (notice) You are connected using SSL and have
provided a matching client certificate
(06:57:32) NickServ: (notice) for nickname *G********. You have been
automatically identified.

*/msg NickServ CERT*
*(07:11:00) NickServ: (notice) *** CERT Help ***

with a fingerprint on your

identified to your nickname
(07:11:00) NickServ: (notice) without having to use the IDENTIFY command.
