Hello,

As we have a few new volunteers for infrastructure tasks and I think I have
to shed some light on the current situation. I will write a short series of
mails to clarify the situation of our infrastructure. I split this into
separate mails to allow easier discussion of the separate areas.

Basics
======

All our infrastructure systems are running on Debian GNU/Linux in LXC
containers on a dedicated infrastructure server.

As announced in [1] and following mails I put a lot of effort to document
the current state of the systems in our infrastructure documentation at
https://infradocs.cacert.org/systems.html currently.

Help to migrate the old and incomplete documentation from the Wiki [1]
https://wiki.cacert.org/SystemAdministration/Systems would be appreciated.

The generated documentation contains a list of TODOs that are ideas and
action items automatically collected from the pages describing the
individual systems. The TODO list follows the table of contents at
https://infradocs.cacert.org/. We also have some older infrastructure
related items collected in our bug tracker at https://bugs.cacert.org/.

I don't have a clear plan where new volunteers could start to help but
reviewing the documentation, the issues in the bug tracker, the generated
TODO list and giving feedback would be most appreciated currently.

That's all for this first mail.

The following separate mails will discuss:

- our Mail systems
- our IRC system(s)
- our Monitoring setup
- other systems
- my idea for the future of our infrastructure administration

Best regards
Jan
