Perhaps not the right place for this question but a CaCert user is
in a jam.
He is leaving within hours for a long weekend in my area and wanted
me to assure him. The rub is he has a trivial error in his CaCert
info ("Chris" instead of "Christopher"). Neither of us can find a
way to fix it.
Obstinate SOB that I am, I'm refusing to assure him unless his id
and db entry match EXACTLY at the time he signs the form. If
somebody can tell Chris how to fix it or tell me that I'm
misunderstanding the rules we'd both appreciate it.
If English is not your first language, you may consider doing a web
lookup for naming variations (sites for baby names are good choices).
You can then double-check your findings against the results of
searching for websites containing the name you are looking for where
you may again see the correlation. You will most certainly find that
"Chris" is the common short form for "Christopher".
I have had to use this process before for non-English subjects (I'm an
Anglophone) requesting PGP key signing.
I am usually only prepared to do things in the reverse of your
situation. I will generally accept a short name in place of a full
name, not vice versa. The "Chris" on the CAcert pages may well be
"Christine". The big HOWEVER in this case is that CAcert's page will
show "Chris'" National ID Number. Nobody other than "Chris" will
possess the matching physical document along with substantiating photo-ID.
I have to disagree. Speaking as somebody whose legal name is "Larry" not "Lawrence" the db really should exactly match the id. There is a "Lawrence J. Riffle". I've met him. He's not me. Its not safe to assume that Larry is Lawrence or that Chris is Christopher.
Aside from enough Espanol to order a beer and ask where to find the bathroom, English is my first and only language.
