Hi all,
Please excuse me if this post is not appropriate for this list, but I do
believe it is relevant and of interest here. After all, CACert is very much
about security in general. :-)
Although I consider myself fairly security conscious, it was only recently
that I realized for the first time that I have been sending my password to my
ISP's POP e-mail server in plain text for years. I am sharing this here in
the hopes that it will be shared - it should be a wake up call for our family
and friends.

The post identifies the problem of sending passwords in plain text and offers
suggestions for mitigating the risks of using insecure mail servers. It also
calls for people to request/demand of their ISPs the use of SSL/TLS as a
basic
security measure (at the very least).
I understand that certificates are not a perfect solution, but certainly, I
would think, wee tad better than nothing at all. Some sort of encryption is
definitely needed in any case.
Regards,
Don
